IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

There is a chance that one of Alpine’s premier community programs is at risk.

The program is the Greater Alpine Fire Safe Council (“GAFSC”), which has provided fire prevention services to the residents of the Greater Alpine community in a cost-effective and extraordinary way since 2007.  The services have included chipping, fire breaks, evacuation plans, and other fire prevention services.  These have been provided at no expense to residents.  GAFSC has been recognized by customers, fire districts, San Diego County, Cal Fire, and others for its work.

Notwithstanding all of this, over the last year changes to the fire prevention funding process have been made unilaterally by Cal Fire without either GAFSC’s consent or its true input.  These changes are a departure from the process used to fund fire prevention services from the inception of fire safe councils and have been made with no particular rationale that has been shared with GAFSC.  These changes will now jeopardize most of GAFSC’s funding.

GAFSC is proud of the work it has done so far and would like to continue to serve the Greater Alpine community, but to do so, it has very few options as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Those could be to charge customers for its service, look to other sources of funding that have not provided funding to GAFSC in the past, or rely on donations which are tax deductible to offset the cost to a customer - similar to a Go-Fund-Me type of program.  All funds donated would be used to continue the much-loved programs GAFSC has provided the Greater Alpine community for over 15 years.

Please click Donations to support this important fire prevention program for the Greater Alpine community in 2023.

Remember by donating you not only help your own family but you also help the whole Greater Alpine community to stay safe!
